I come for the green chile tempura but not the sushi. It is just average cuts of fish. The cooked food is much better.

I have been to the mix a lot great place to go for sushi. But I will say the sushi portions are a little on the small side. The rainbow roll which is one of my favorites is on the small side here. I like it here for the great service other food portions seem fine hope this helps.

I enjoy the yakisoba with chicken. Their salad dressing is fantastic. Decent prices.

I have eaten at Mix a handful of times and I honestly cannot understand what is so great about it. I love Japanese food, especially sushi and have eaten at countless Japanese restaurants, but I cannot recommend Mix very highly. I have been extremely fortunate finding great meals at Japanese restaurants, but not at Mix. Also, I have had issues with the people working the front door being rude and pushy. Most of my friends; however, really like this place, so I guess you have to experience it for yourself. Also, Mondays are busy, but highly popular for meal and drink specials. My suggestion: Go to Aqua Reef!!!

Awesome wait staff and surprisingly kid-friendly considering the corporate clientelle that they had when we visited. I've been there 3 times in the past week and I haven't been disappointed yet....and I don't expect to be either. Izakaya - Monday Fun Day! Sake for only $1.95, $2.00 imported beers, and a variety of house specials at a discounted price. It kicks off at 5:00pm to 9:00pm. We got there at 5:15pm and the there were only 3 tables left. There's always the sushi bar option, too. My favorites: Age Siew Mai - Japanese fried shrimp dumplings Teriyaki Baby Back Ribs - most flavorful ribs I've had in NM/TX area! Kaisou Salad - Seaweed salad marinated in sesame sauce. Red Snapper/Green Chile/Cream Chesse sushi roll Las Cruces Roll - Pecan Breaded Green Chile & Garlic Chile Mayonnaise Still have so much more to try!

When the server hands you your plastic container of take out sushi, fresh from the refrigerator, you will wish you could give it back. I just love my sushi rice cold, dry, and crunchy, with a microscopic piece of day-old fish and some green unrecognizably-small piece of cucumber or avocado! What a lunchtime treat!

I just moved here from Seattle and was told this was the place to go for sushi in town. I am giving it three stars because I DID have a good time and the sushi was decent for what I expected. I have to tell you, though. What I expected was little more than mediocre sushi that I would expect to find in a grocery store. So, imagine my relief when it was room temperature and tasted like it was only a day or two old and not sitting in some freezer for ages. I also liked the fact that they at least tried to offer something other than the traditional rolls and sushi plates that people who don't know sushi order. I think that for Las Cruces (being land-locked) this is a decent place to go for some sake and tolerable sushi. The wait-staff was great and the decor was cool. I had a good time, like I said, and all in all it was - well - three star fun. Personally, my advice is: If you want sushi, wait until you take a trip to a coastal area and save yourself the heartache. There are plenty of other great (and authentic) local dishes and restaurants around here.

The Mix IS different than the Mix Express, which is right next door and more of a takeout place. The Mix is sitdown sushi with ambiance- for cheaper prices, go Monday night (I think?) for college night. For a landlocked state, pretty darn good sushi. I see them making the rolls right in front of me, not taking them out of the refrigerator (I always feel better when Asians are making the sushi, even if they aren't Japanese...so shoot me). Good selection of beer and o.k. sake. I've always had good service. The tables are very small, but they pack a lot of people into their small space so I suppose it works for them. I think these are the same people who own Aqua Reef, but the food is much better. Squid salad tastes like it was actually made today, instead of thawed out and thrown on a plate. It can't match coastal sushi...but hey, try to get good Mexican food in Florida. Update: It seems in the last year things have gotten less fresh- is this possible? Maybe new management, maybe they're getting lazy about prep and buying more frozen. Our edamame during our last visit was definitely frozen, chewy and too hard, and the fish on our "fresh" sushi rolls had a decidedly fishy smell. Sushi shouldn't smell fishy. I'm downgrading a star because it's "just ok." P.S. FREEZING in there! Take a sweater!

Been going to the Mix for years. Last couple of visits I have noticed a decline. Today for lunch at the 30 minute mark after placing my order I had to leave. I had asked about ten minutes before about my order and the server never came back. They did box it up and gave me a twenty percent discount. However putting a cold California roll in with hot tempura note a good idea. Also, the ginger beef was just not as good as it used to be for the second time now. Afraid I won't be back soon.

Have not been here for years used to be busy and awesome. I'm the only one in here, I always get nervous in sushi place that is not busy. Sushi was just OK, my favorite Panko Roll was over cooked and hard to eat. Need to find new sushi joint in Cruces

My husband and I had decided we would never go to mix again. But we decided we would give it a try again after about a year of not going. What a mistake that was. Our dinner last night was decidedly the worst experience we've had eating out the entire year. The management was chaotic. The health didn't know what they were doing. And the food was totally miserable. For a meal that cost $100 I could've had a far better meal at McDonald's for seven. First high ordered an udon noodle soup but the waiter came back and said they were out of udon noodles. So next time I ordered the shrimp volcano but the waiter came back and said they were at a shrimp. Out of shrimp on a Friday night? you've got to be kidding me. So after looking over the menu for third time I'm still stewing about what to eat when the waiter runs back and says it was misinformed that they do have shrimp. So I ordered the shrimp volcano. It was simply the worst shrimp dish I have ever eaten. A few small dried up shrimp swimming in a salty sauce that it was unpalatable. There was about a tablespoon of vegetables and a spoonful of mash potato. I hate to shrimp and left the rest for the trashcan. My has been ordered sushi but that was a mistake too. The rice and fish were both dry and there was so little fish in the sushi you could not even be tasted. Don't waste your money at this restaurant.
